ULX250 is a single Unilux carbon filter for Westinghouse, Chef and Electrolux rangehoods running in recirculating mode. Rather than venting outside, these rangehoods push air through a carbon filter to take out cooking odours before returning it to the kitchen. It's listed for the Westinghouse WRF, WRH, WRJ and WRR ranges, Chef CRF and CRR models, and other Electrolux group rangehoods such as the RHN6S and RRE634S.

When to change a recirculating rangehood carbon filter

A carbon filter soaks up the smells and smoke from cooking. Once the carbon is saturated it can't absorb any more, and cooking smells hang around the kitchen even with the fan on high. Washing won't bring saturated carbon back, so unless your manual says the filter is washable, plan to replace it. Most rangehood makers suggest changing carbon filters every few months with regular cooking, so check the guidance in your manual and replace it sooner if you fry often.

Fitting the carbon filter

Turn the rangehood off at the switch, or at the wall if it plugs in, and let it cool. Take out the grease filters to expose the motor housing. Remove the old carbon filter from the fan inlet and fit the new one the same way. Some rangehoods carry a filter on each side of the motor, so check whether you need one or two. Refit the grease filters and run the fan to check everything is seated.
