Why use aluminium ties in hot spots

Inside a cooking appliance, loose wiring is a real hazard. If a lead drifts onto an element, a hot cavity wall or a fan blade, its insulation can melt or wear through and cause a short or a burnt connection. Factory wiring is normally clipped or tied in place, and those fixings often get cut or broken during a repair. Nylon cable ties won't last near that kind of heat, whereas aluminium copes with far higher temperatures. Refitting a proper tie keeps the loom where the designer intended.

Using the ties

Make sure the appliance is switched off at the wall or isolated, and cool. Wrap the tie around the wiring or sleeving and fasten it snugly without biting into the insulation. Keep the tie's edges away from bare conductors, and position bundles clear of elements and moving parts. Trim or fold back any spare tail so it can't snag.
