The door seal is a heat resistant gasket that closes the gap between the door and the front of the oven cavity. It keeps the heat inside, helps the oven reach and hold its set temperature, and stops hot air blowing out onto the knobs and control panel. Over time it hardens, flattens, tears or loses its clips. Signs include steam or smoke escaping around the door edges, food taking longer to cook, a control panel that gets unusually hot, and visible gaps or splits in the seal. How to fit the oven door seal
Let the oven cool and switch it off at the wall or isolating switch. Open the door and note how the old seal is held, often with clips or hooks pushed into holes around the oven front. Pull it out gently, then fit the new seal starting at the top centre and work around, pressing each clip home. Close the door on a strip of paper at several points to check it grips evenly.
