Product details
SCL10 is a generic inline water filter from the Crystal Clear range that pairs a scale inhibitor with rust removal. Being an inline filter, it's fitted into a water line so the supply runs through the filter body on its way to the outlet. Hard water and rusty pipes are behind a lot of the build up found in taps, hoses and appliance valves. Check that the connections suit your water line before ordering.
What a scale inhibiting inline filter does
Hard water leaves calcium and magnesium behind as it heats or evaporates, and over time that shows up as white crust on outlets and scale inside valves and heating parts. A scale inhibitor treats the water as it flows through so less of that mineral sticks. Rust is a different problem, usually brown or orange flecks from old pipes or tanks, and the rust removal side of this filter is there to deal with it. Signs you'd benefit include crusty outlets, slow flowing water lines and discoloured water at the tap.

Installing an inline filter
Turn the water off at the tap or isolation valve and release the pressure before cutting into or disconnecting a line. If the filter body shows a flow arrow, fit it so the water runs in that direction. Use fittings that match your pipe or tube size, then turn the water on slowly and look for drips. Connections to mains water should be done by a licensed plumber where local rules require it.
Questions about this part
How often should the filter be replaced?
That depends on how hard your water is and how much flows through it. As a guide, replace it when scale starts returning, the flow drops off or discoloured water comes through. No set service life is listed for this filter.
