Deflecto's RHK125W is a 125mm semi-rigid ducting kit for running a rangehood out through an external wall. Semi-rigid duct holds its shape better than thin flexible foil duct, so it's less prone to sagging and kinking, yet it can still be bent around corners by hand. It suits rangehoods with a 125mm outlet spigot. Measure your rangehood's outlet before ordering, as many hoods use 150mm or other sizes.

Why duct your rangehood to the outside

A ducted rangehood pulls steam, grease and cooking smells out of the kitchen and sends them outdoors, rather than filtering the air and recirculating it. Venting outside also takes moisture away, which helps stop condensation and mould on kitchen ceilings and cupboards. The duct run matters as much as the fan. A run that's too long, has too many tight bends, or uses crushed or undersized duct will cut airflow, so the hood sounds loud but extracts poorly. If your existing duct is torn, flattened, greasy or has come off its spigot, a fresh kit often brings the hood back to proper performance.

Installing the duct kit

Turn the rangehood off at the wall or isolate its circuit before working around it. Keep the run as short and straight as possible, and avoid sagging or crushing the duct. Seal joints with foil tape and secure each end firmly to the spigot and wall outlet. Cutting through an external wall may need a builder, and any hard-wired rangehood connections must be done by a licensed electrician.

Will this kit fit my rangehood?

It suits hoods with a 125mm outlet. Measure the outside diameter of the spigot on top of your rangehood or check its installation manual. If your hood has a different size outlet, you'll need a reducer or a different kit.
