It shields the lamp from grease and steam rising off the cooktop and spreads the light across the cooking area. Blanco rangehood light cover broken or missing
Rangehood lenses are thin and sit right above the cooking zone, so they see plenty of heat, steam and grease. Over time the clips can turn brittle and snap, letting the lens fall out, and a lens can crack if it is knocked while the filters are being cleaned. Without a cover the lamp holder collects grease, globes fail sooner and the light can be harsh on the eyes. A lens that has yellowed or discoloured also cuts the light reaching the cooktop.

Fitting the lamp lens
Turn the rangehood off and let the lamp cool. Ease the old lens out by its clips with a plastic tool rather than a screwdriver to avoid scratching the hood. Check the globe while you're there and replace it if needed. Line up the clips on the new lens and press it in until it clicks home.
