LG fridge not dispensing water or making ice?

The water valve is an electrically operated solenoid valve where the household water line connects to the fridge. When the control board calls for water, the coil opens the valve and water flows on to the dispenser or the ice maker. A failed coil leaves the dispenser dry and the ice tray empty. A valve that sticks open or has a cracked body can overfill the ice maker, or drip and leak behind the fridge. Low water pressure and a blocked water filter cause similar complaints, so rule those out first.

Replacing the water valve

Unplug the fridge and turn off the water supply at the tap. Ease the fridge out carefully so you don't kink the water line, then remove the rear lower cover. Photograph the wiring and tube connections before disconnecting anything. Fit the new valve, push the tubes firmly home, then turn the water on slowly and check every joint for drips before moving the fridge back.
