MIL003UN is a red high temperature silicone sealant for appliance repair work where everyday bathroom silicone would soften, crack or burn. Repairers keep a tube handy for sealing and bedding parts in the warmer zones of ovens, cooktops and other heating appliances. The red colour makes it easy to see exactly where it has been applied, and to tell it apart from clear or white sealant on the bench.
Where red high temp silicone earns its place
Heat is hard on seals. Inside an oven or around a cooktop, ordinary sealants harden, shrink and let go, which can let hot air, steam or grease escape into places it shouldn't. A high temperature silicone stays flexible once cured, so it can fill gaps, bed down a component or seal an uneven surface that a pre-cut gasket can't cover. It isn't a substitute for a proper door seal and it isn't a structural adhesive. Check the packaging for the maker's temperature limit and cure time before you start.

Getting a good bond
Switch the appliance off at the wall and let it cool completely first. Scrape away the old sealant, then clean both surfaces with methylated spirits and let them dry, as silicone won't grip grease or dust. Run an even bead, tool it smooth and leave it to cure fully before the appliance is heated, following the cure time on the pack.

Can I use this to fix my oven door seal?
Not as a replacement for the seal itself. A worn oven door gasket should be swapped for the correct part for your model. This silicone is for sealing gaps and bedding components, so send us your model number if you need the matching door seal.
