The door seal is the folded, flexible boot between the drum opening and the front panel. It flexes as the drum moves and seals against the glass when the door shuts, keeping water inside during the wash and spin. Tears usually start in the lower fold, where coins, underwire and grit get trapped, and mould tends to build up in the same spot. Leaks at the front of the machine, a musty smell that won't wash out and black marks on clothes are the common signs. A torn seal needs replacing, as patches rarely last.

Fitting an LG door seal

Turn the washer off at the wall and turn the taps off. Remove the outer clamp ring from the door opening, peel the seal off the front lip, then release the inner clamp on the drum side. Line up any locating marks on the new seal with the drum, fit the inner clamp first, then the front lip and outer clamp. A spare set of hands makes the clamps much easier.
