Dryer taking too long or making a racket?
The fan moves air around the dryer's drying circuit, pushing it through the drum to pick up moisture and on through the part of the system that takes the moisture out. The fan is fitted to its own shaft, and the two come together in this assembly. If the blades crack, come loose on the shaft or clog with lint, airflow drops off sharply. Clothes take much longer to dry or come out damp, and the dryer may stop with a fault or overheating warning. A damaged fan often scrapes, rattles or rumbles in time with the drum.

Before fitting the fan
Unplug the dryer and clean the lint filter and any lint you can reach in the air path first, since blocked airflow alone often causes slow drying. Reaching the fan means partly stripping the dryer, so take photos at each step and bag the screws. Fit the new assembly in the same orientation as the old one, then test run the dryer and listen for clean, quiet running.
