The front of a dryer drum runs on guide bearings mounted to the front bulkhead, while the back is supported separately. As those front guides wear, the drum drops slightly and starts rubbing where it shouldn't. Typical signs are a squeal or chirp on every rotation, a scraping or grinding sound near the door, worn felt seals, and a drum that sits lower at the front than it used to. Fitting the front guide bearings
Unplug the dryer and, on a condenser or heat pump model, empty the water container. The front panel has to come off to reach the guides, so photograph the door switch wiring and any other connections first. Support the drum while the front bulkhead is removed. Clean out lint, fit both new guides, refit the bulkhead and turn the drum by hand to check it runs freely and quietly.

Do I need to replace both guides?
It's best to. The kit includes two because both guides carry the front of the drum and wear at a similar rate. Fitting just one can leave the drum sitting unevenly, and the noise can come back.
