Dryer squealing or drum not turning
The drum is turned by a long belt that loops around it and runs back to the motor, and this pulley is one of the parts that belt travels over. It has to spin smoothly under load for the belt to grip properly. As it wears, you'll often hear a squeal, chirp or rumble that gets louder as the dryer warms up. A seized or broken pulley lets the belt slip or jump off, so the motor runs but the drum sits still and the clothes stay damp.

Fitting the belt pulley
Unplug the dryer before opening it up. Getting to the belt and pulley normally means removing the top or front panel, so photograph each step and keep the screws in order. Note exactly how the belt threads around the pulley and motor before taking it off. Fit the new pulley, rethread the belt and turn the drum by hand to check it runs smoothly.
