The bearing housing is mounted at the back of the dryer and supports the rear of the drum as it turns. It holds the bearing that the drum shaft runs in, so it takes the weight of the drum and a damp load on every cycle. As the bearing wears or the housing cracks, the drum starts to squeal, grind or knock, and it may drop enough to rub on the front or rear seals. Replacing the bearing housing

Unplug the dryer and give yourself room to work behind it. Depending on the model, the housing is reached from the back panel or by removing the drum through the front. Take photos as you strip it down, note any spacers or washers on the drum shaft, and clean old grease and lint from the area. Spin the drum by hand once assembled to check it turns smoothly and quietly.
