Fisher & Paykel dishwasher not heating or not washing

This pump does two jobs. It drives water up through the spray arms under pressure, and the heater built into its housing warms that water as it circulates. That's why a failed heat pump can show up in two ways. If the motor side fails, the dishwasher fills and drains but you won't hear the wash running, and dishes stay dirty. If the heater side fails, the wash runs but the water stays cold, dishes come out greasy and the cycle may stall or show a heating fault. A leak from the pump body can be another sign.

Fitting the heat pump

Unplug the dishwasher, turn off the tap and remove the kickboard. Soak up any water left in the sump. On many models the base is reached by sliding the machine out and laying it on its back on a blanket. Photograph the wiring and hoses before you disconnect them. Fit the new pump with fresh clamps if the old ones are tired, then run a short cycle and check for leaks.
