Dishwasher not filling with water? Test the inlet valve
When the control board calls for water, it powers the solenoid coil on the inlet valve, which opens and lets mains water flow into the dishwasher. When the power drops, the valve snaps shut. A coil that has burnt out leaves the dishwasher unable to fill, often with a fill error and a faint hum. A valve that sticks open or has grit in its seat can let water creep in when it shouldn't, risking an overflow and a leak. A blocked filter screen where the hose connects causes slow filling.

Fitting the inlet valve
Switch off at the wall, unplug the dishwasher and turn off the water tap. Slide the dishwasher out of its cavity and keep a towel ready for water left in the hose. Photograph the spade connections, remove the inlet hose and the internal pipe from the old valve, then swap it over. Reconnect everything, open the tap and run a short program while watching for drips.
