Dishwasher tines falling down? Replace the basket clip

In the lower basket, rows of fold down tines let you switch between standing plates upright and clearing a flat space for pots and pans. This clip holds the folding section in position. When it snaps or wears, the tines flop over during loading or collapse onto the dishes as the basket slides in and out, and plates no longer stand up properly to be washed. Clips also crack from being forced or from years of hot washes. Swapping the clip gets the basket working again and avoids replacing the whole basket.

Clipping on the replacement

Slide the lower basket out to get good access. Note how the old clip sits on the basket wire and which way it faces, then remove any broken pieces. Line the new left hand clip up in the same spot and press it on until it snaps into place. Fold the tines up and down a few times to check they hold in both positions.
