Water pumped up the supply tube reaches the upper spray arm through this base, which also locates the arm so it can spin freely under the top basket. If the base cracks, warps or loses its fit, water leaks out before it reaches the arm, and the arm may stall or wobble. The result is dirty or gritty dishes on the top rack, food film left on glasses and sometimes a rattling or knocking sound during the wash. A cracked base can also let the arm drop off when the basket is pulled out.

Fitting the sprayer base
Switch the dishwasher off at the wall and pull out the top basket. Unclip or unscrew the upper spray arm, then remove the old base, noting how it locks to the basket or supply tube. Move the ring across from the old base if your machine has one. Fit the new base, refit the arm and spin it by hand to check it turns freely before running a wash.
