Dishwasher leaking or not draining

Every time the dishwasher empties, waste water travels through this hose to the sink trap or standpipe. Under the sink the hose is easy to crush with cleaning products or bins, and over time the hose can split or the elbow can crack. A split hose leaks onto the cabinet floor while the dishwasher drains, so check underneath if you find water in the cupboard. A blocked or kinked hose leaves dirty water standing in the base after a cycle, and the dishwasher may stop with a drain fault.

Fitting the drain hose

Switch the dishwasher off at the wall and turn off the tap. Slide the machine out far enough to reach the hose connection at the pump outlet, keeping a towel ready for the water left inside. Fit the new hose, secure it the same way the old one was held, and route it up to the drain connection with a high loop or as the installation guide shows. Check it isn't pinched when the dishwasher goes back.

Measure the route from the back of the dishwasher to your drain connection, allowing for the high loop, before ordering. If the drain is further away than the hose will reach, a plumber can extend the drain plumbing rather than joining hoses together.
