A cracked bin spills ice through the freezer and can jam behind the drawer, so it's worth replacing rather than taping up.
Cracked or broken ice bin in an RF605Q fridge
The top bin sits in the upper part of the freezer compartment and holds ice from the ice maker so it's ready to use. Cold plastic turns brittle, and knocking the bin with frozen packs or dropping it while full can crack the corners or snap the front. Once damaged, ice can escape into the drawer below, freeze into lumps or stop the drawer closing properly. Pieces of broken plastic can also find their way into the ice you use, which is another good reason to replace it.

Fitting the new bin
Empty any ice from the old bin and lift it out, checking whether it has to be tilted or released from a stop. Wash the new bin in lukewarm water and dry it well so it doesn't freeze to the shelf. Slide it into position and make sure the drawer or door closes fully with the bin in place.
