Top loader won't spin or shows a lid lock error
For safety, these washers lock the lid before the drum spins at speed and keep it locked until it has slowed down. The lid lock is the latch and switch that make this happen. When it fails, the machine may fill and wash but refuse to spin, stop with a lid error, or keep the lid locked shut at the end of the cycle. A broken latch can also let the lid open while the machine is still turning. Check the lid isn't bent and that nothing is jammed in the lock before replacing it.

Replacing the lid lock
Unplug the washer and turn off the taps before removing any panels. Access is usually through the top deck or console, so photograph the wiring plug and fixings once you can see the lock, then swap it over. Keep the wiring routed away from water and moving parts. Close the lid and run a rinse and spin to confirm it locks, spins and releases at the end.

The lid is locked and won't open. Is the lock faulty?
Not always. Make sure the cycle has finished and the drum has stopped, then turn the machine off at the wall for a few minutes. If the lid still won't release, the lock or the control may be at fault.
