It sits where the hot hose connects and lets hot water into the machine when the program asks for it. If warm and hot washes are coming out cold, or water trickles in when the machine is off, the valve is worth checking.
Fisher & Paykel washer filling cold on a warm wash?
The hot inlet valve is controlled by a solenoid coil. When the program calls for warm or hot water, the coil opens the valve and water flows from your hot tap into the machine. A failed coil leaves the valve shut, so the machine fills from the cold side only, takes ages to fill, or stops with a water supply fault. A valve that won't close fully lets hot water seep into the tub while the machine is idle. Rust or scale in the inlet screen can also restrict flow, so clean that while you are checking.

Fitting the hot valve
Turn off both taps and unplug the washer before disconnecting the hot hose. Note which wires go to the valve terminals and how the internal hose is routed, then swap the valve over. Use a fresh rubber washer in the hose fitting if the old one is flattened. Turn the hot tap on slowly, check for drips and run a warm program to confirm hot water comes in.
