Worn suspension rods in a Haier top loader
Rods don't usually fail suddenly. The damping fades over time, so a washer that once spun quietly starts to rock, thud and rattle. The tub may knock the sides of the cabinet when it reaches full speed, and the machine can stop spinning altogether if it detects too much movement. Look inside with the washer empty. If the tub sits off centre or drops and bounces when you press on one side, the rods on that side are worn.

Fitting the C rod
Isolate the power at the wall and shut off both taps first. Lift the top panel to reach where the rods hook in. Take the weight of the tub with one hand, unhook the worn rod and feed it out through the base. Fit the new rod so its top end sits fully in its seat on the cabinet and the lower end engages the tub. Test with a small load on spin.
