Signs the heating element in your front loader has failed
The element sits in the bottom of the outer tub and warms the water on any program above a cold wash. When it burns out, the washer may run its whole cycle with cold water, drag out the cycle time while it waits for a temperature it can never reach, or stop with a heating error. An element that has shorted to earth often trips the safety switch the moment heating begins. Scale and detergent build-up shorten element life, especially in hard water areas. A resistance check with a multimeter will confirm whether the element is open circuit.

Fitting the heating element
Pull the plug and shut both taps before you start. Depending on the model, the element is reached through the back panel or the lower front. Photograph the terminals, loosen the centre nut and ease the old element out. Slide the new one in so it locates in its bracket inside the tub, then tighten the nut evenly to seal it. Run a warm rinse and check for leaks.
