Washer not filling or filling slowly

When a wash starts, the controller energises one or both coils on the valve and cold water flows through to the dispenser drawer and into the drum. If a coil burns out, one path stops working, so detergent or softener may be left behind in the drawer, or the machine stops with a fill error. A valve that sticks open keeps filling with the power off, which can overflow the tub or leave water in the drum overnight. Low water pressure, a closed tap or a blocked hose screen can look similar, so rule those out first.

Changing the cold inlet valve

Turn off the taps and switch off at the wall, then disconnect the cold hose at the back of the machine. On most front loaders the valve is reached by lifting off the top panel. Label each wire and hose against the coil and outlet it came off before removing the old valve, and reconnect them the same way. Check for leaks on the first fill.

Is this only the cold valve?

Yes, this valve handles the cold supply only. On machines that also have a hot connection, the hot valve is a different part. Check the markings next to the hose connections on the back of your washer if you're unsure which side has failed.
