Front loader leaking at the door or smelling musty?

The bellows is the flexible boot that joins the drum opening to the front of the cabinet. It seals against the door glass during the wash and flexes as the tub moves. Over time, coins, underwire and zips can tear it, and constant damp lets black mould take hold in the folds. Leaks around the door, water on the floor after a cycle, a musty smell that won't clear, or splits you can see when you pull back the lower fold all point to a worn seal. Fitting a new one is also a chance to clean behind it.

Fitting a front loader door seal

Switch off at the wall, turn the taps off and make sure the drum is empty. The seal is usually held by a clamp ring on the cabinet side and a larger band on the tub side, and reaching the tub band can be fiddly. Line up the marks on the new bellows with the top of the tub opening and position any drain holes at the bottom. Run a short wash and check for drips.
