Water leaking from the front of your F&P washer?

Every wash puts the door bellows under water pressure, detergent and the pull of the spinning drum. Over time the rubber hardens or splits in the lower fold, and objects like coins, hair clips and underwire can tear it. Black mould in the folds that will not clean off is also common. Signs include water running down the front of the machine, a puddle near the feet, a damp smell that persists after a hot wash, and visible tears when you pull back the lip of the seal.

Changing the bellows

Disconnect the power at the wall and turn off both taps. Remove the outer spring clamp that holds the seal to the front panel, peel the seal off the lip and push it into the drum. Depending on the model, the inner clamp at the tub can be reached through the door or by taking the front panel off. Line up any locating marks on the new seal with the tub, refit both clamps and run a rinse cycle to check for leaks.
