It controls the outdoor side of the system, including the compressor and outdoor fan, based on signals from the indoor unit. Haier air conditioner outdoor unit not running? The PCB may be at fault
The outdoor board takes instructions from the indoor unit and switches the compressor, outdoor fan and, on reverse cycle models, the reversing valve. When it fails, the indoor unit may run its fan but blow air that's neither cool nor warm, the outdoor unit may stay silent, or the system may show a communication or outdoor fault code. Storm surges, insects and moisture getting into the outdoor unit are common causes of board damage. A qualified technician should test the supply, wiring and sensors first, as these faults can mimic a failed board.

Licensed installation only
In Australia, work inside an air conditioner's outdoor unit must be done by a licensed electrician or a qualified air conditioning technician. The system has to be isolated at the circuit breaker, and some boards hold a charge after power is removed.
