Choosing a 150mm stainless steel wall vent for a rangehood

A ducted rangehood only works as well as its outlet. An external wall vent with gravity blades lets cooking air escape freely, then closes when the fan stops so cold air, insects, birds and wind-driven rain can't come back down the duct. Plastic vents fade and turn brittle in the sun, and lower grades of steel can rust near the coast. 316 stainless steel is the marine grade, chosen for its resistance to salt air. Installing the wall vent

Confirm the vent's 150mm connection matches your duct. Remove the old vent, clean back the wall surface and join the duct to the vent, sealing the joint with foil duct tape. Run exterior sealant around the flange and fix the vent so the blades hang freely and open outwards. Work at height safely, and use a builder for new wall penetrations.
