Why rigid ducting helps a rangehood work properly

A rangehood can only move as much air as its ducting allows. Smooth, rigid metal pipe offers far less resistance than crushed or long runs of flexible duct, so more steam, smoke and cooking odour leaves the kitchen. Galvanised steel resists rust and handles heat better than plastic. Common reasons to replace ducting are a run that's been squashed in the ceiling, a flexible duct that has split or sagged, or a hood that sounds busy but barely draws. Installing clip-seam duct pipe

Wear gloves, as cut galvanised edges are sharp. Close the seam along its full length before fitting, then join sections and seal each joint with foil duct tape. Support the run so it doesn't sag. If the rangehood is hard-wired, isolate the power first and leave any electrical connections to a licensed electrician.

Will 150mm pipe fit my rangehood?

Measure the outlet spigot on top of your rangehood. If it's 150mm, this pipe connects directly. A different size outlet needs an adaptor, and stepping down to a smaller duct than the outlet will cut the hood's airflow.
