Oven light gone out? Replacing a G9 halogen globe

Changing a G9 oven globe

Turn the oven off at the wall, or isolate it at the switchboard if it's hard-wired, and wait until it's completely cold. Remove the lamp cover, then pull the old globe straight out rather than twisting it. Handle the new halogen globe with a clean cloth or gloves, because skin oils on the glass can shorten its life. Push it firmly into the holder, refit the cover and test.

Can I touch the halogen globe with bare hands?

Try not to. Oil from your fingers can create hot spots on halogen glass and cause early failure. Hold it with a tissue or clean cloth, and if you do touch it, wipe the glass with a little methylated spirits before fitting.
