Rangehood light out? Matching a G4 halogen globe

G4 halogen capsules are popular in rangehoods because they give a bright, white light from a very small globe. The G4 name refers to the base, two pins spaced 4mm apart, so it needs to match along with the voltage and wattage. Halogen globes fail when the filament breaks, which can happen with age, vibration or oils from fingers left on the glass. Changing a G4 globe

Switch the rangehood off at the wall and let the old globe cool, as halogens run very hot. Remove the light cover, then pull the old globe straight out of its holder. Hold the new globe with a clean cloth or tissue rather than bare fingers, push the pins firmly into the holder, refit the cover and test the light.

Can I use this globe in a 240V fitting?

No. This is a 12V globe and needs a fitting powered by a transformer, as used in many rangehoods. Putting it in a mains voltage fitting will blow it straight away. Check the voltage printed on your old globe before ordering.
