When to replace a clothes dryer vent duct
A vented dryer blows hot, moist air out of the back of the machine. With no duct fitted, or with a duct that's split, flattened behind the dryer or packed with lint, that air stays in the laundry. Common signs are fogged windows and damp walls, black mould spots on the ceiling, loads that take much longer to dry and a cabinet that feels very hot. A blocked duct can also make the dryer trip its overheat protection. Fresh duct, run with as few bends as possible, lets the dryer push its air out freely.

Connecting the duct
Switch the dryer off and unplug it before pulling it out from the wall. Push one end of the duct over the dryer's outlet and the other over the vent spigot, then hold each end with a duct clamp. Stretch the duct so it doesn't sag, avoid tight kinks, and keep it away from the back of the dryer where it can be crushed. Always vent to the outside, never into a roof space or wall cavity.

How do I know if my dryer takes a 100mm duct?
Measure across the round outlet on the back of the dryer. If it's about 100mm, this duct will fit over it. Plenty of vented dryers use this size, but not every appliance does, so check yours before you order.
Can I cut it shorter?
Flexible duct can usually be trimmed to suit a shorter run. Cut it cleanly with a tool that suits the duct, tidy any loose edges that could catch lint, and clamp the cut end firmly onto its spigot.
