Product details
EFG-201 is a generic EFG-201 type thermostat, an aftermarket temperature control for ovens. It holds the oven near the dial setting by switching the elements on and off. The EFG-201 type number is the key to a correct fit, so compare it with the code on your existing thermostat. No compatible models or temperature range are on file for this part, so check the old one carefully before you order.
Oven temperature all over the place? Check the thermostat
Most mechanical oven thermostats sense heat through a probe or bulb inside the oven and open or close their contacts to cycle the elements. If the contacts weld shut, the oven keeps climbing past the setting and burns food. If they stay open, the oven won't heat or only gets warm. Older thermostats also drift, so dishes take much longer than the recipe says or cook unevenly from one batch to the next. An oven thermometer on the middle shelf is a simple way to compare the real temperature with the dial.
Part details
- Generic thermostat, type EFG-201
- Aftermarket part, not made by the appliance brand
- Check the type number against your old thermostat
Fitting an oven thermostat
Turn the oven off at the circuit breaker and let it cool fully. Thermostat replacement on a hard-wired oven needs a licensed electrician. Note where the sensing bulb is clipped inside the oven and route the new one the same way, without kinking any capillary tube. Check the oven reaches and holds temperature before putting it back into use.
Questions about this part
Is EFG-201 the right thermostat for my oven?
It's a generic thermostat sold as type EFG-201. If your old thermostat carries EFG-201, or a repairer has quoted that type, this is the one to order. Otherwise check the temperature range, shaft and connections with us through the parts enquiry form.
