EFF-6002A is an EcoAqua fridge water filter made as a compatible replacement for the Whirlpool 4396508 cartridge. It's a generic aftermarket filter, not a Whirlpool part, built to fit the same filter housing. The 4396508 cartridge is used in Whirlpool fridges and in Maytag models, a brand from the same group. If your current filter shows 4396508, this is the EcoAqua cartridge to order.
Why change your fridge water filter
A fridge filter cleans the water going to the dispenser and ice maker, catching sediment and cutting chlorine taste and odour so drinks and ice taste better. As the cartridge clogs, the flow from the dispenser slows, ice cubes come out smaller or hollow, and the taste can return. An old cartridge can also start to leak around its seals. Many fridge makers suggest a change about every six months, or sooner where the water supply carries a lot of sediment.

Fitting and flushing the new filter
Compare the shape and fitting of your old cartridge with the photo before you start, and have a towel ready for drips. If your fridge manual says to, turn off the water supply first. Remove the old filter as the manual shows, push or twist the new one fully home, then run several litres through the dispenser into a jug and tip it out. This clears trapped air and flushes the new cartridge.
