Product details
ECC41500 is a generic gas thermocouple with a 1500mm length, a universal aftermarket part rather than one made by an appliance brand. The long lead suits appliances where the gas control sits a fair way from the burner or pilot. Before ordering, check the length you need and the fitting at the gas valve end against your existing thermocouple. All gas work must be done by a licensed gas fitter.
Pilot or burner won't stay lit?
A thermocouple is the safety sensor in many gas flame failure systems. Its tip sits in the flame and produces a tiny voltage when hot, and that voltage holds the gas valve open. If the flame goes out, the voltage drops and the valve shuts off the gas. As thermocouples age, the tip burns away or the lead gets damaged and the voltage falls too low. The classic symptom is a pilot or burner that lights while you hold the knob in, then goes out as soon as you let go. Check the flame is hitting the tip properly before replacing it.

A job for your gas fitter
In Australia, replacing a thermocouple on a gas appliance is work for a licensed gas fitter. Turn the gas off at the isolation valve and the power off at the wall first. The fitter will match the connection at the valve, position the tip correctly in the flame, keep the lead free of kinks and leak test everything before the appliance goes back into use.
Questions about this part
Is a longer thermocouple a problem?
Extra length can usually be coiled loosely out of the way, but it must not be kinked or sit near the burner. The connection at the gas valve and the tip position still have to suit your appliance, so get your gas fitter to confirm it before installation.
