Product details

EBG60806203 is a genuine LG thermistor assembly, a temperature sensor that usually comes on a lead to plug into the control board. LG fits thermistors to air conditioners, fridges, dryers and other appliances, and our records don't say which product this one belongs to. Check that your old sensor's lead label, or your model's parts list, shows EBG60806203 before ordering.

What a thermistor does and how it fails

A thermistor is a resistor whose resistance changes with temperature. The control board measures that resistance and works out the temperature, then uses it to decide when to heat, cool, defrost or stop. If the sensor goes open circuit, shorts, or drifts out of range, the board gets a false reading. Typical results are an error code, a unit that runs constantly or never starts, cooling or heating that's far too strong or too weak, or a protective shutdown. A technician can check it by measuring resistance at a known temperature and comparing it with LG's chart.

Changing the sensor

Isolate the power before you start, and leave hard-wired appliances to a licensed electrician. Note exactly where the old sensor sits and how it's clipped or held, since a sensor in the wrong spot reads the wrong temperature. Follow the original cable route and secure it with the same clips or ties. Plug it into the same socket on the board and test the appliance.

Questions about this part

Can I test the thermistor before buying?

Yes, with a multimeter set to resistance. Unplug the sensor from the board and measure across its terminals, then compare the reading with the temperature table in the service information for your model. An open or short circuit reading confirms it has failed.
