Signs the lid lock on an LG top loader has failed
The lid lock does two jobs. A switch inside reports whether the lid is closed, and a solenoid driven latch holds it shut while the drum spins. When either side fails, the machine refuses to go further. Common symptoms are a lid related error code on the display, the washer stopping before the spin, the lock clicking over and over without catching, or the lid staying locked at the end of the cycle. A cracked lid hook or a broken plastic housing can cause the same fault, so look at the striker on the lid as well.

Fitting the LG lid lock
Switch the washer off at the wall and unplug it. The lock is mounted under the top panel beside the lid opening, so the top usually needs to be released to reach it. Note how the wiring plug and any clips are routed, then swap the assembly over and refit the top. Run a rinse and spin to confirm the lid locks during the spin and releases once the drum stops.
