Motor or control board? Narrowing down the fault

When an LG motor stops, the question is whether the motor or the board driving it has failed. The motor gets its power and speed command from the board, so a board fault can make a perfectly good motor sit still. Signs that point to the motor itself include a burnt smell from the motor body, a shaft that's seized or rough to turn by hand, visible damage to the windings or casing, or a motor that runs noisily and erratically when it does start. If the shaft turns freely and the board shows signs of burning, look at the board first.
