Broken or stuck air conditioner vane
The lower vane is moved by a small stepper motor so it can open when the unit starts, swing for even air distribution and close neatly when it stops. A vane that's cracked, has a broken pivot or has been forced by hand can sag, rattle, jam part way or fail to close. Air then blasts in one direction, condensation can drip from the outlet in cooling mode, and the unit may look permanently half open. If the vane looks fine but won't move, the motor may be the fault.

Fitting the lower vane
Switch the unit off with the remote, then isolate it at the isolator or circuit breaker. Most lower vanes unclip from a centre support and a pivot at each end, with one end engaging the vane motor shaft. Flex the vane gently, as forcing it can crack it. Once fitted, restore the power and run the unit so the vane can find its home position.
