Product details

Panasonic bearing CWH64K1006 is a genuine part listed for the CS-A7CK, CS-A9CK and CS-A12CK wall splits plus the CS-E12DKR. In wall split indoor units a bearing like this normally carries the end of the long barrel fan furthest from the motor, keeping it spinning true. Once it wears, the noise gives it away. Fitting the factory part gets the fan running quietly and smoothly again.

Noisy Panasonic indoor unit fan

The indoor fan runs for hours at a time, and its end bearing slowly dries out and wears. As play develops the fan barrel starts to wobble, and the unit makes itself heard. Common complaints are a squeak or chirp when the fan starts, a rhythmic ticking on low speed, a rumble or groan that gets louder over time, or the fan rubbing on the housing. Ignoring it can let the fan damage itself or strain the fan motor. If the noise changes with fan speed rather than with the compressor, the bearing is a strong suspect.

Replacing the fan bearing

Isolate the unit at the switchboard before opening it. The fan barrel usually has to come out to reach the bearing, which can mean removing the front panel, drain tray and evaporator fixings, so it's a job for an experienced technician. Note the bearing's orientation in its mount, fit the new one the same way, and spin the fan by hand before reassembling.
