Why a recirculating rangehood needs a fresh carbon filter

When a rangehood isn't ducted outside, it pulls air through the grease filters and then through a carbon filter before blowing it back into the room. The activated carbon soaks up cooking smells, but it can only hold so much. Once it's saturated, odours pass straight through and the kitchen holds onto smells long after cooking. Carbon filters can't be washed like metal grease filters, so they're replaced on a schedule, often every few months with regular cooking.

Changing the carbon filter

Switch the rangehood off at the wall and let the cooktop cool. Remove the grease filters to reach the carbon filter, then release the old one. Fit CFM001 the same way round and make sure it's held firmly. Write the date on the filter or in your calendar so you know when the next change is due.

That depends on the rangehood. Some take one carbon filter and others take two, one on each side of the motor. CFM001 is sold as a single, so count the filters in your rangehood and order the matching quantity.
