Ariston or Technika oven grill not heating?
The top element sits in the roof of the oven cavity and does the grilling, and on many ovens it also provides top heat in other cooking functions. A dual element has two heating circuits, so the oven can heat the centre only or the full width depending on the setting. Elements fail when the internal coil breaks, which leaves part or all of the grill cold, or when the outer sheath splits and shorts to earth, which trips the safety switch. Blistering, bulges or a visible break in the element are clear signs it has had its day.

Replacing the grill element
Ovens are hard-wired, so the power must be isolated at the switchboard and the element fitted by a licensed electrician. Access is usually through the back panel or by lowering the element inside the cavity, depending on the model. Photograph the terminal connections first, because a dual element has more wires than a single one. Run the grill on both settings to test it.
