BROXY is a 1 litre Bromic oxygen cylinder, Bromic code 1811320, made as a single use bottle. It's the oxygen side of a small portable brazing setup, paired with a fuel gas to reach the heat needed for joining copper refrigeration and air conditioning pipe. Once it's empty it can't be refilled, so keeping a spare in the kit saves a trip mid-job.

Why brazing torches need oxygen

Fuel gas burning in air alone gives a fairly soft flame. Feeding pure oxygen into the torch makes the flame much hotter and more concentrated, which brings copper joints up to brazing temperature fast and lets the filler rod flow right through the joint. When the oxygen bottle is running low, the flame loses its sharp inner cone, heating slows down and joints can be left incomplete, leading to leaks later on. A fresh cylinder puts full heat back at the tip.

Using and storing oxygen cylinders

Never let oil or grease touch the valve, regulator or fittings, as pressurised oxygen can make them burn violently. Fit the regulator by hand to the correct thread, open the valve slowly and test joints with leak detection spray. Keep cylinders upright, out of the sun and away from fuel gas bottles when stored. Empty single use bottles must never be refilled, and should be disposed of according to local rules.
