The bowl locks into the base of the Chef so it can't spin or lift while the beater, whisk or dough hook works through the mix. The tools are set to sweep close to the bowl at the right height, so a bowl that's dented, bent at the base or worn where it locks in can leave unmixed ingredients at the bottom, let tools scrape the metal or rattle loose during kneading. Fitting and looking after the bowl
Switch the mixer off at the wall and raise the mixer head before fitting the bowl. Sit it in the socket and turn it until it locks, then lower the head and check the tool clears the bottom. Wash it in warm soapy water after use and dry it straight away. Avoid steel wool and harsh scourers, which scratch the finish.
