Why semi rigid aluminium duct suits dryer venting

A vented dryer pushes warm, damp, lint-laden air out of the back of the machine. Without a duct, that moisture ends up on walls, ceilings and windows, which encourages mould and peeling paint. Ducting it outside, or into a suitable vent, keeps the laundry dry. Aluminium copes with the heat from a dryer outlet and keeps its shape over a long run. A crushed, torn or lint-clogged duct slows drying, makes the dryer run hot and can trip its safety thermostat, so replace damaged runs rather than taping them up.

Installing the duct

Unplug the dryer before working behind it. Stretch the duct out gently, then keep the run as short and straight as practical, since every bend adds resistance. Secure each end over its spigot with a duct clamp or foil tape, and make sure the duct isn't crushed when the dryer is pushed back. Clean lint from the duct regularly.

Can I use this duct for a rangehood?

It suits any outlet with a 100mm spigot, which includes some smaller rangehoods and exhaust fans. Check your hood's outlet size first, as many rangehoods use 125mm or 150mm ducting instead, and Deflecto makes semi rigid duct in those sizes too.
