On an LG top loader the lid is more than a cover. A lid switch or lock senses whether it's closed, and the washer won't fill, spin or finish its cycle if it thinks the lid is open. A cracked frame, a snapped hinge, a broken lock tab or a damaged lid panel can all leave the machine stuck or showing a lid error. Lids also get damaged when something heavy is dropped on them or the washer is moved. Replacing the lid assembly restores a proper close and lets the safety switch do its job.

Fitting the washer lid
Unplug the washer before working near the lid switch. Open the lid fully and support it while you undo the hinge screws or release the hinge clips at the back of the top panel. Fit the new lid, make sure it closes square and engages the lock or switch, then run a short rinse and spin to check it works.
