How the ice maker works and what goes wrong
Water from the fridge's inlet valve fills the ice maker's mould, a sensor or thermostat waits for it to freeze, and a motor then turns the mould or an ejector to drop the cubes into the bin. A small heater may warm the mould to release the ice. If the motor, sensor or heater fails, you may see a full tray that never empties, water spilling over, cubes jammed in the mould, or nothing happening at all. LG supplies the ice maker as a complete unit, so the whole assembly is swapped.
