Signs the ice maker in your LG fridge has failed
The ice maker fills its mould with water, waits for it to freeze, then turns the cubes out into the ice bin and starts again. Temperature readings tell it when the cubes are frozen and ready to drop. Common failures are no ice at all, small hollow cubes, a tray that keeps overflowing and freezes into a block, or an ejector that stops part way through and stays stuck. If water is reaching the mould but nothing comes out, the ice maker itself is the most likely fault.

Fitting the ice maker kit
Switch the fridge off at the wall and remove the ice bin. Take a photo of how the wiring plug and sensor lead are routed, then undo the mounting screws and unplug the old unit. Fit the new assembly in the same position, connect the plug firmly and refit any covers. Give the freezer time to get back to temperature, then throw out the first batch or two of ice.

How long before the new ice maker makes ice?
The freezer needs to be back at its normal temperature first, and the first harvest can then take several hours. Building up a full bin can take a day or so. Discard the first few batches, as they can carry dust or a plastic taste from installation.
