LG front loader not heating water or tripping power?

The heater element sits in the bottom of the outer tub, under the drum, and warms the water for warm and hot programs. A temperature sensor reports back to the control board so it knows when to switch the heater off. When the element fails open circuit, the machine still runs but the wash stays cold, cycles take far longer, or a heating error such as tE appears. An element with a breakdown in its insulation tends to trip the safety switch as soon as heating starts. Scale from hard water on the element speeds up failure.

Replacing the heater

Unplug the washer and turn off the tap. Depending on the model, the heater is reached by removing either the lower front panel or the back panel. Photograph the terminals, loosen the centre nut and ease the old element out of the tub. Slide the new one in so it locates in the bracket inside the tub, tighten the nut evenly and run a warm wash to test for leaks.
