When to change an inline fridge water filter
Plumbed fridges draw mains water through this filter before it reaches the ice maker and the water dispenser. The cartridge is there to catch sediment and help water and ice taste cleaner. Over time it clogs, and you'll notice the dispenser running slower, ice cubes coming out small or hollow, or water that tastes of chlorine again. A blocked filter can also make the ice maker underfill. Because it sits outside the fridge, it's easy to swap without touching the appliance itself, which is why many owners keep a spare on hand.

Swapping the inline filter
Turn off the water at the tap that feeds the fridge, then press the dispenser to release any pressure in the line. Disconnect the old filter and note which end faces the fridge. If the new filter shows a flow arrow, point it towards the fridge. Connect it, turn the water back on slowly and check every joint for drips. Run a few jugs through the dispenser to clear trapped air before you drink it.
